Human Resources Case Study: Developing a career matrix for South Asia’s largest apparel manufacturer

Developing a career matrix for South Asia’s largest apparel manufacturer
Context Our Work
· The client had a large respectable brand name and was one of the largest employers in the country

· As their HR systems evolved, they found themselves with a unique challenge of meeting employee aspirations with their existing structure

· They wanted a clearly defined career matrix that was easy to understand and communicate within the organization

· We studied their existing performance management, career progression processes and key job requirements across levels in the organization

· We then interviewed key decision makers within the organization to understand their unique challenges. One thing was clear, managers wanted simplicity and a practical solution

· We then proposed a visual representation of an employee’s career path and what s/he needed to do to get to the next level

· The grid was simple in communication and clearly laid out the expectations and criteria that each employee needed to fulfill to move across career levels. Finally, we followed that up with a communication pack for managers to address any concerns.

Results: The client was able to roll out the structure and embed it into their HR processes within no time and switch over to a transparent and open system.
